Hull FC Exit Leaves Coach John Cartwright Feeling Betrayed

Former Hull FC head coach John Cartwright expressed feelings of betrayal and disrespect following his unexpected departure from the club. The announcement of his exit was made on April 7, prior to the club providing him with an explanation. Cartwright, a 60-year-old Australian, revealed that he still has not been given a reason for the decision to terminate his contract. He stated, 'The club decided to part ways at the end of my contract, and that's how it happened. I haven't been given a reason, and I expect to discuss this further in the near future.' Cartwright took over as head coach at the start of the 2025 season and led the team to a seventh-place finish, their highest since 2020. Despite the current ninth-place standing in Super League, Cartwright emphasized his commitment to his job, saying, 'I'll continue to do my job and won't do anything to jeopardize it.' The club has already begun the process of finding a new coach for the 2027 season.
