Hull FC Announces Coaching Change as Cartwright Departs, Paving Way for McNamara's 2027 Arrival

John Cartwright has relinquished his position as head coach of Hull FC, effective immediately, with Steve McNamara slated to assume the role starting from the 2027 Betfred Super League season. This development follows a joint announcement by Hull FC and Warrington Wolves, confirming McNamara's future appointment. Although Cartwright is no longer at the helm, he remains employed by Hull FC. In the interim, assistant coach Andy Last will oversee the team for the remainder of the current season. Meanwhile, McNamara will continue to serve as assistant coach at Warrington Wolves for the duration of the 2026 campaign. McNamara, who rose through Hull FC's youth ranks and went on to have a distinguished playing career, including over 160 senior appearances and international representation, will return to his boyhood club. With a coaching career spanning two decades, McNamara has had notable stints with Bradford Bulls, Catalans Dragons, and the England international side, as well as experience in the NRL. His tenure with Catalans Dragons was particularly noteworthy, as he led the team to a Challenge Cup final victory, a League Leaders Shield, and two Super League Grand Final appearances. Hull FC's chief executive, Richie Myler, expressed enthusiasm for McNamara's appointment, citing his exceptional coaching caliber and deep understanding of the club and city. Similarly, chairman Andrew Thirkill welcomed McNamara, highlighting his experience, leadership, and standards as crucial in building a competitive team. Sky Sports will continue to broadcast every Super League game live, including exclusive matches and those available on Sky Sports+.
