England Test captain Ben Stokes is planning to make his return to cricket in May, following a 'lucky' escape from a serious training accident. Stokes suffered a broken cheekbone and other facial injuries in February while coaching at Durham's academy, but is now on track to play for Durham in May. He is expected to feature in two County Championship matches, against Worcestershire and Kent, as well as potentially playing for England Lions against South Africa A.
Stokes underwent surgery after the accident and has been working to get back to full fitness. He has dismissed any suggestions of a rift with head coach Brendon McCullum, saying that differences of opinion are a natural part of any successful sporting relationship.
Meanwhile, England fast bowler Brydon Carse has withdrawn from the IPL due to a hand injury, with the severity of the injury still to be determined.
