Andoni Iraola to Depart Bournemouth as Club Shortlists Three Potential Replacements

Bournemouth's head coach, Andoni Iraola, has announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. Former RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose is among the three candidates shortlisted to succeed Iraola. Iraola, whose contract expires in three months, has rejected multiple offers to extend his stay at Bournemouth amid interest from his former club Athletic Club and other Premier League teams. With six games remaining, Iraola will depart after a record-breaking three-year tenure on the south coast. "The time is right for me to step aside," he stated on the club's website. Iraola's final home game will be against Manchester City on May 17, followed by a trip to Nottingham Forest on the last day of the Premier League season. Bournemouth had attempted to persuade Iraola to stay, but despite being disappointed by his decision, the club maintains a mutual respect for the outgoing coach. Discussions about Iraola's future initially began over 15 months ago, but he preferred to wait until later in the campaign to have meaningful conversations. The search for a new head coach has been ongoing, with three favored candidates on Bournemouth's shortlist. Currently 11th in the league, Bournemouth could still achieve European qualification, sitting two points behind seventh place. Iraola has been a popular figure since his appointment in June 2023, implementing an attacking and dynamic style of football. The club finished ninth in the Premier League last season, achieving a club-record 56 points. Iraola has had to cope with the sales of several key players this season, including Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, and Antoine Semenyo, for a total of £253m. As one of the Premier League's most sought-after coaching prospects, Iraola's next destination is uncertain. Athletic Club is interested in bringing him back to the Basque Country, while Crystal Palace and Tottenham have also been linked to the coach. Manchester United has yet to make a decision on their next head coach, and speculation surrounding Eddie Howe's future at Newcastle has led to Iraola being considered a potential replacement.
