Mercedes Intensifies Efforts to Enhance Race Starts

According to George Russell, the Mercedes team is diligently working to improve their race starts, a critical area of focus ahead of the Formula 1 season's resumption in Miami. Despite achieving four front-row lockouts in the initial three Grands Prix and Sprint events, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to secure the lead after the first lap. The team's inability to capitalize on strong starts has been their most significant weakness, although they have demonstrated sufficient pace to recover and claim victories in the first three races. Ferrari, meanwhile, has excelled in starts this season, attributed to their compact turbo, which enables quicker spin-up times and facilitates finding the optimal launch window. While drivers have limited opportunities to practice starts during Grand Prix weekends, Russell emphasizes that the team has been meticulously analyzing data to address this key flaw. In an interview with Sky Germany during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell highlighted the extensive work being done behind the scenes, including simulator sessions and data analysis, to rectify their start issues and prepare for the upcoming Sprint races in Miami and Montreal.
