McIlroy and Norris Shine at Laureus World Sport Awards

Golfing sensation Rory McIlroy and Formula One champion Lando Norris were honored at the star-studded Laureus World Sport Awards on Monday. McIlroy, who completed his career Grand Slam in 2025, received the Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award, while Norris took home the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award after winning his maiden Formula One drivers' championship title. McIlroy expressed his gratitude, stating, "Receiving my second Laureus Award is a tremendous honor, both personally and for the sport of golf. To be recognized on a global stage alongside such exceptional athletes is truly meaningful." He added, "Certain moments in your career stay with you forever, and winning The Masters is one of them. To have a year like that recognized by Laureus is incredibly special. Completing the career Grand Slam was an emotional experience, and it's even more meaningful because of the journey that led to it - the near misses, setbacks, and questions along the way. I'm grateful that this award acknowledges that journey." McIlroy also congratulated the nominees, saying, "I've taken inspiration from their stories, and I believe in the idea that sport has the power to change the world, as Nelson Mandela said." Meanwhile, Norris credited his team for his success, saying, "Winning the world championship is a dream come true, and it's not an individual achievement. Without my team, I wouldn't be where I am today. It's an honor to be recognized by the Laureus Academy, and I hope to inspire young drivers coming through." Other winners included Carlos Alcaraz, who was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, and Aryna Sabalenka, who received the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award.
