Hull FC Exit Leaves Cartwright Feeling Betrayed and Disrespected

Former Hull FC head coach John Cartwright expressed feelings of betrayal and disrespect following his departure from the club, which was announced without prior explanation. On April 7, Hull FC revealed that Cartwright would be leaving at the end of the Betfred Super League season, catching the 60-year-old Australian off guard. Despite the news, Cartwright has yet to receive an explanation for the decision. In a statement to reporters, he said, 'The club decided to part ways, and a six-month termination clause was exercised. I still haven't been given a reason, and I expect to discuss this further in the near future.' Cartwright, who took over at the MKM Stadium in 2025 and led the team to a seventh-place finish, their highest since 2020, emphasized his commitment to his job and the players. Hull FC has begun the process of hiring a new coach for the 2027 season and currently sits ninth in Super League with three wins and four defeats from their first seven matches. Cartwright stated, 'I'll continue to do my job and maintain my loyalty to the players, which can never be taken away.'
