Oleksandr Usyk has pledged his support to help Anthony Joshua secure a victory over Tyson Fury. Joshua, a former world champion who has lost to Usyk on two occasions, has joined Usyk's training camp and is working closely with the undefeated, unified heavyweight champion. Usyk has extended a warm welcome to Joshua, stating, 'We collaborate, we work together, and we share jokes - it's an incredible experience. Previously, we were rivals, but now we're friends.' As a two-weight, three-time undisputed world champion, Usyk is well-equipped to provide Joshua with valuable insights on how to defeat Fury, having beaten him twice himself.
'I believe AJ will triumph over my friend Fury,' Usyk confidently asserted. Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, revealed that negotiations for a highly anticipated all-British heavyweight showdown between Joshua and Fury are progressing, with the possibility of Usyk being in Joshua's corner for the fight.
Hearn expressed his optimism, saying, 'It's a significant statement, but I wouldn't be surprised. Usyk's presence will undoubtedly be beneficial - it's unlikely to be an easy fight, but we're all confident.' Training with Usyk has already had a profound impact on Joshua, with Hearn noting, 'The setup is exceptional, and being around the best fighter in the sport is truly inspiring. Joshua has been with Usyk since August and has shown no signs of leaving.' Hearn added, 'When you're pushing yourself to the limit, and Usyk comes over to offer words of encouragement, it's a truly motivational experience that you can't replicate without being in that environment.' Usyk is currently preparing for his own fight against Rico Verhoeven on May 23, where he will defend his WBC title.
Despite being linked to potential future fights, including a possible trilogy with Fury, Usyk remains focused on his upcoming bout, stating, 'For now, my sole focus is on Rico, and then we can discuss future plans.'
