LIV Golf CEO Downplays Financial Concerns Amid Speculation Over Saudi Backing

LIV Golf's CEO, Scott O'Neil, has alleviated concerns over the series' funding, stating that it is financed through the current season and that the organization will work diligently to ensure its continuation. This comes amidst speculation that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which backs the breakaway golf league, may withdraw its financial support. The league, which was launched in 2021 as a rival to the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, has reportedly received nearly $5 billion in funding since its inception. O'Neil's remarks were in response to comments made by LIV team captain Sergio Garcia, who hinted that funding was secured until 2030. However, O'Neil emphasized that the reality of the situation is that the league is funded on a seasonal basis and that it is standard practice for private equity-funded businesses to create plans to sustain themselves. Earlier in the week, O'Neil informed LIV staff that the season would proceed as planned, without interruption. The PIF has not publicly commented on the matter. Reports had emerged suggesting that LIV Golf executives were summoned to an emergency meeting in New York, with some outlets claiming that the PIF was on the verge of ending its funding to the league. However, no official decision has been made. The situation has caused some confusion among LIV Golf players, with some seeking reassurance from the league's chiefs. Jon Rahm, a Ryder Cup star, expressed that he was not overly concerned about the league's future, stating that he would wait for official confirmation before worrying about the rumors.
