Joel Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his decision to resign as head coach of Catalans Dragons, a position he held for nearly a year, citing personal reasons. The former England international found it challenging to be away from his family and, after a recent period at home, decided to leave the team after seven Super League games, with the side currently sixth in the standings. Tomkins initially took on the role as an interim coach following Steve McNamara's departure but was later appointed as the permanent head coach. In a statement, Tomkins expressed his gratitude for the experience, stating, 'My time at Catalans Dragons has been invaluable, with many highs and challenges, all of which I've cherished as a rookie head coach.' However, he found it difficult to be away from his family for an extended period. After spending time at home due to personal reasons, Tomkins decided to step down and end his tenure at the club. He thanked the players, staff, and supporters and wished the team success for the remainder of the season and beyond. Tomkins' absence from the last three fixtures sparked speculation about his exit. Ryan Sheridan, along with assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, will take over as interim head coach, starting with the team's next game against Warrington Wolves on April 18.
