This week, Sky Sports Racing ambassador Hollie Doyle will be in action at Newmarket's Craven meeting, where she is set to ride the promising Derby contender Wareeth in the Listed Feilden Stakes. On Wednesday, Doyle's boss Archie Watson's exciting colt Wareeth will take a significant step up in class as he competes in the Listed Feilden Stakes. Wareeth, the son of Sea The Stars, will benefit from the extra furlong, having won his novice over 1m at Newcastle last month by an impressive 14 lengths. Although Wareeth does not currently hold a Derby entry, his team has been pleased with his performance since his racecourse debut.
After sitting on him last week, Doyle felt he was in good form, but his true potential will be revealed after this second start. Wareeth will face stiff competition from Aidan O'Brien's Isaac Newton, who boasts an edge in experience after winning his maiden at Goodwood and finishing fourth in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud. Isaac Newton holds a Derby entry and has an official rating of 106, setting the standard for the other colts.
Godolphin's Poseidon's Warrior will also be making the leap from novice company, having won over this distance at Goodwood, and is entered in the Classic. All three colts are set to compete in the traditional Derby trial, the Group 2 Dante at York next month. Doyle will also be riding Heather Main's sprinter Zoulou Chief in the Weatherbys With Venatour Racing Handicap on Wednesday. Zoulou Chief has been busy on the All-Weather over the winter, winning at Wolverhampton and giving a good battle to subsequent Listed dead-heater Completely Random at Lingfield Park.
Approaching his prime as a five-year-old, he is a few pounds higher than his best winning performance at York in 2023 but appears to be a 90 horse. Doyle has ridden work on Jane Chapple-Hyam's outsider Harlequin Breeze and believes she is worth her place in the Group 3 Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes on Wednesday. Despite likely odds, Harlequin Breeze brings potentially smart form into this Betfred 1000 Guineas trial, having gotten within a neck of William Haggas's well-regarded Zooming. Impossible Mission needs to prove he's at least as good on turf as he is on the All-Weather when he receives weight from all his rivals in the National Stud Handicap on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Des Donovan's Lady Fizz will be making her debut in the Molson Coors British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes, taking on fillies from powerful yards over 1m. On Thursday, Doyle will ride Marco Botti's Shergar Cup winner Prince Of India in the Zyn Abernant Stakes. It will be the first time she has ridden him on the track, but she liked him when she sat on him on the gallops last year. Prince Of India is a powerfully built colt who could prove a force in stakes sprints this summer.
The race appears to be wide-open, but he should be spot on after a creditable comeback in the Listed Lady Wulfruna Stakes at Wolverhampton last month. Doyle is expecting big things from Hawk Mountain this year and will be disappointed if he doesn't make a winning return in the Group 3 Betway Craven Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday. Aidan O'Brien's son of Wootton Bassett is already a Group 1 winner after taking the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster last October and can strengthen his own Derby claims.
Another favourite of Doyle's is Karl Burke's Boiling Point, who returns to turf in the Group 3 Betway Earl Of Sefton Stakes on Wednesday. The Cambridgeshire winner probably needed the outing in a steadily run Winter Derby, but with that run under his girth, he can establish himself as a genuine Pattern performer this season.
