With Sinner absent from the draw, Alcaraz's chances of winning the tournament are boosted. "I won't miss him this week," Alcaraz joked in his pre-tournament press conference. "I know I must win the tournament to regain the number one ranking. The battle between Jannik and me is great, and it provides extra motivation. However, we're focused on staying on our path, trying to improve, and we're clear about what we need to do in training and matches. Results and points are extra motivation." Alcaraz plans to play a full clay schedule this season, with events in Madrid and Rome before defending his French Open title in Paris on May 24.
