Mercedes Intensifies Efforts to Enhance Race Starts

According to George Russell, the Mercedes team is diligently working to improve their race starts, a crucial aspect they aim to perfect ahead of the Formula 1 season's resumption in Miami. Despite achieving four front-row lockouts in the initial three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to secure the lead after the first lap. The team's primary weakness lies in their starts, but they have consistently demonstrated sufficient pace to rebound and claim victories in the first three races. Ferrari, on the other hand, has exhibited exceptional starting prowess, attributed to their compact turbo, which facilitates quicker spin-up times and enables them to find the optimal launch window. While drivers have limited opportunities to practice starts during Grand Prix weekends, Russell emphasized that the team is thoroughly analyzing data to rectify their significant flaw. In an interview with Sky Germany during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell stated, 'There's a tremendous amount of work being done behind the scenes.' He further explained that the team is leveraging simulator analysis and data examination to understand their shortcomings in the initial three races and prepare for the forthcoming events, including the Miami and Montreal sprint races. Although the team is not permitted to practice starts during tire testing, they are focused on data analysis to enhance their performance.
