LIV Golf CEO Addresses Financial Concerns, Assures Stability

LIV Golf's CEO, Scott O'Neil, has alleviated concerns surrounding the series' funding, stating that it is "funded through the season" and that the organization will "work tirelessly" to ensure its continuation. This comes amidst speculation that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), the primary backer of the breakaway golf league, may withdraw its financial support. The PIF has invested a reported $5 billion (£3.7 billion) in the series since its inception in 2021. O'Neil's comments were in response to rumors sparked by LIV team captain Sergio Garcia's remarks about funding being secured until 2030. O'Neil emphasized that the series has commitments in place to operate as a going concern and that its funding model is similar to other private equity-funded businesses. Earlier, O'Neil had informed LIV staff that the current season would proceed as planned, without mentioning anything beyond this season. The PIF has not commented on the matter, but its governor, Yasir Al Rumayyan, recently stated that some investments are being reviewed due to economic feasibility and the Middle East conflict. Despite reports of an "emergency meeting" in New York, no official decision has been made regarding the PIF's funding of LIV Golf. Some LIV Golf players, including Ryder Cup star Jon Rahm, have expressed confidence in the series' future, with Rahm stating that he is "not too worried" about the rumors.
