British tennis star Emma Raducanu has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Madrid Open, citing her ongoing recovery from post-viral symptoms. This decision comes after she also pulled out of recent WTA Tour events in Miami and Linz, prioritizing her rehabilitation.

Raducanu, who has been dealing with the aftermath of an illness contracted in Romania, is currently back in training and aims to participate in the Italian Open in Rome, scheduled for early May. Her last match was on March 8 at Indian Wells, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova.

Following the match, Raducanu acknowledged that she lacked power in her game and expressed the need to adopt a more aggressive playing style. Since parting ways with her coach Francisco Roig in January, Raducanu has been working informally with Mark Petchey to regain her form. The Italian Open, starting on May 5, will be her next opportunity to compete on clay, followed by tournaments in Strasbourg and Rabat leading up to the French Open. Raducanu joins a list of high-profile players, including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Barbora Krejcikova, who have also withdrawn from the Madrid Open.
