Following her defeat to Lani Daniels in a unified IBF and WBO super-middleweight championship bout in New York, Shadasia Green received medical attention for a brain hemorrhage. The fight, which took place at the Madison Square Garden Theater, saw Green stoppage-loss to Daniels, a former heavyweight titleholder.
After a flurry of punches from Daniels in the ninth round, the referee intervened, and Green was stretchered out of the ring. In a social media update, Green revealed that she had lost consciousness due to brain bleeding but was on the path to recovery in the ICU.
Green, who had become a unified world champion after upsetting Britain's Savannah Marshall last year, expressed gratitude to those who showed concern during the fight and appreciated the support of her promoter, Nakisa Bidarian, and Most Valuable Promotions. Most Valuable Promotions also released a statement, thanking the New York State Athletic Commission, Madison Square Garden, and the hospital for their care and leadership.
