McIlroy Savors 'Incredible' Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy has reflected on the challenges he overcame to achieve a historic title defense at Augusta National, admitting it would have been tough to accept not winning after building a record-breaking halfway lead. McIlroy became the fourth player in history to win back-to-back Masters titles, following his dramatic playoff win over Justin Rose last year. Despite establishing a six-shot halfway lead, the largest 36-hole advantage in Masters history, McIlroy fell two behind playing partner Cameron Young on the final day after dropping three shots in a two-hole stretch. However, he responded with four birdies over the rest of the round, securing a sixth major title with a one-shot win over Scottie Scheffler. McIlroy acknowledged the difficulty of winning at Augusta, stating, 'I don't make it easy!' and noting that his early 20s wins were often by large margins, but now victories are typically hard-fought. He joined Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods as the only players to win The Masters in successive years, expressing delight at his perseverance paying off after 17 years of waiting for his first Green Jacket.
