This week, Sky Sports Racing ambassador Hollie Doyle will be competing at Newmarket's Craven meeting, with a notable ride on the promising Derby contender Wareeth in the Listed Feilden Stakes. On Wednesday, Wareeth, trained by Archie Watson, will participate in the Listed Feilden Stakes, providing an opportunity to assess his potential as a Derby horse. The extra furlong in the Feilden Stakes is expected to suit Wareeth, a son of Sea The Stars, who won his novice race over 1m at Newcastle by 14 lengths last month. Although he does not currently hold a Derby entry, the colt has shown promise since his racecourse debut.
Hollie Doyle had the chance to ride Wareeth last week and felt positive about his performance, but more will be revealed after this second start. Wareeth faces stiff competition, including Aidan O'Brien's Isaac Newton, who has a Derby entry and boasts an official rating of 106.
Another contender, Poseidon's Warrior, will also be making the leap from novice company. All three colts are entered in the traditional Derby trial, the Group 2 Dante at York next month. In the Weatherbys With Venatour Racing Handicap on Wednesday, Hollie Doyle will ride ZOULU CHIEF, who ran a commendable race at Newmarket in the autumn.
ZOULU CHIEF has been active on the All-Weather circuit over the winter, winning at Wolverhampton and giving a good performance against Completely Random at Lingfield Park. As a five-year-old approaching his prime, he is a few pounds higher than his best winning performance at York in 2023 but appears to be a 90 horse. Hollie Doyle has also ridden work on Jane Chapple-Hyam's outsider HARLEQUIN BREEZE and believes she is worth her place in the Group 3 Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes on Wednesday. Despite being a maiden after three starts, Harlequin Breeze has improved with every run and impressed Hollie Doyle with her determination over course and distance in November.
IMPOSSIBLE MISSION will need to demonstrate his ability on turf, receiving weight from all his rivals in the National Stud Handicap on Wednesday. John Butler's three-year-old made a successful handicap debut under Neil Callan at Wolverhampton in November and should have improved after his reappearance there last month. Meanwhile, Des Donovan's LADY FIZZ will gain experience in the Molson Coors British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes, facing fillies from prominent yards over 1m, which may be a minimum trip for her in due course. On Thursday, Hollie Doyle will ride Marco Botti's Shergar Cup winner PRINCE OF INDIA in the Zyn Abernant Stakes.
She is looking forward to riding him on the track for the first time, having sat on him on the gallops last year. PRINCE OF INDIA is a powerfully built colt who could be a force in stakes sprints this summer. The race appears to be wide-open, but he should be well-prepared after a creditable comeback in the Listed Lady Wulfruna Stakes at Wolverhampton last month.
Hollie Doyle has high expectations for Hawk Mountain, who will make his return in the Group 3 Betway Craven Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday. As a Group 1 winner after taking the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster last October, Hawk Mountain can strengthen his own Derby claims. Another favourite of Hollie Doyle's is Karl Burke's Boiling Point, who returns to turf in the Group 3 Betway Earl Of Sefton Stakes on Wednesday. The Cambridgeshire winner likely needed the outing in a steadily run Winter Derby, but with that run under his belt, he can establish himself as a genuine Pattern performer this season.
