In a bid to bolster its technical capabilities, Red Bull has unveiled a series of key changes within its technical department, aimed at intensifying its focus on innovation and performance. Ben Waterhouse, a veteran team member since 2017 and previously head of performance engineering, has been promoted to chief performance and design engineer, assuming an expanded leadership role that will see him report directly to Technical Director Pierre Wache. This new position grants Waterhouse oversight across both design and vehicle performance, a move Red Bull believes will "fortify the integration of these areas, thereby expediting the development of high-performing, competitive solutions". In another significant development, Andrea Landi is set to join the team on July 1, transitioning from sister team Racing Bulls to take on the role of head of performance.
Landi, who has previously served as deputy technical director at Racing Bulls and held the position of deputy head of vehicle performance at Ferrari, will be under the supervision of Waterhouse. According to a statement from Red Bull, these strategic adjustments are designed to support the team's long-term technical objectives, underscoring its commitment to nurturing internal talent while attracting top expertise from across the motorsport landscape. Red Bull's announcement comes at a time when the team is navigating a challenging start to the new era of Formula 1 regulations, currently sitting sixth in the Constructors' Championship after three races, with a significant 119-point deficit to early leaders Mercedes. The team has also experienced the departure of several key personnel to rival teams in recent years, including the impending loss of Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen's race engineer and the team's head of racing, who is slated to join McLaren in 2028 upon the expiration of his contract.
The Formula 1 season resumes on May 1-3 with the Miami Grand Prix, the season's second Sprint weekend, broadcast live on Sky Sports F1.
