Evan Williams, a Horse Trainer, Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Assaulting a Dog Walker

Evan Williams, a 55-year-old horse trainer, has been sentenced to three years in prison for attacking a 72-year-old dog walker, Martin Dandridge, who was on his land. The incident occurred on December 4, 2024, in Llancarfan, Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales, and left Mr Dandridge with serious injuries, including a fractured arm. Williams denied the charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent but was found guilty by a unanimous jury after a trial at Cardiff Crown Court. The judge, Recorder Angharad Price, stated that Williams had made a choice to confront Mr Dandridge instead of waiting for the police to arrive, and that his actions were unacceptable. Williams, a successful trainer with multiple Grade One wins, including at the Cheltenham Festival, will now serve a three-year prison sentence. The incident occurred six weeks after Williams had a confrontation with poachers on his land, during which he was threatened with a shotgun. The judge emphasized that it is never acceptable to take the law into one's own hands and that Williams should have called the police instead of resorting to violence.
