Catalans Dragons Part Ways with Head Coach Joel Tomkins Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his decision to leave his position as head coach at Catalans Dragons, citing personal reasons. Tomkins, who took over the role less than a year ago, revealed that being away from his family for an extended period had taken a toll on him. Following a recent stint back home, he made the difficult choice to depart the club after just seven games into the Super League season, with the team currently sitting sixth in the standings. Tomkins initially assumed the role on an interim basis after Steve McNamara's departure but was later appointed as the permanent head coach. In a statement, Tomkins expressed his gratitude to the club, stating, 'My time at Catalans Dragons over the past 18 months has been a valuable learning experience, both personally and professionally.' However, he noted that the distance from his family had become too challenging to continue. Tomkins will be replaced by Ryan Sheridan, who will take over as interim head coach alongside assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce. The team's next match is scheduled for April 18 against the Warrington Wolves.
