Nijman Dominates Players Championship 10 for Fourth 2026 Title

Wessel Nijman continued his remarkable start to 2026, claiming his fourth ranking title of the year at the Players Championship 10 in Wigan. Nijman overpowered former Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites 8-2 in the final to regain the top spot in the Players Championship rankings. This victory came after Chris Dobey briefly surpassed Nijman following his win at Players Championship Nine. Nijman began his campaign with a hard-fought win against Martin Lukeman, then proceeded to defeat Justin Hood, securing his place in round three and initiating a dominant run towards the title. He averaged almost 110 in a six-leg demolition of Adam Gawlas and followed up with victories over Niels Zonneveld and Beau Greaves. Nijman's impressive performance continued in the semi-finals, where he averaged 108.46 against Luke Woodhouse. In the final, Nijman capitalized on Waites' slow start, establishing an early lead and setting the tone for a dominant display. Despite Waites narrowing the gap in leg three, Nijman regained control with a 12-darter, sparking a five-leg sequence that saw him take a 7-1 lead. Waites managed to double his score but ultimately fell to Nijman, who emerged victorious with a 101.34 average. Nijman reflected on his performance, stating, 'Today was probably the best floor event I've played all year. I hit many averages above 105, and it was a really good day.' He expressed happiness with his overall performance and acknowledged that these types of events seem to suit him. With this win, Nijman breaks new ground, having also achieved a maiden big-stage success at the European Darts Trophy last month. He is now targeting more silverware at the European Darts Grand Prix. Nijman climbs to 18th on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder, with his goal for the year being to reach the top 16 as early as possible. Elsewhere, Beau Greaves made back-to-back quarter-finals, showcasing impressive wins over Martin Schindler and Cameron Menzies.
