Fitzpatrick Credits Caddie's McIlroy-Inspired Advice for Playoff Victory

Matt Fitzpatrick has revealed that his caddie's words of encouragement, similar to those used by Rory McIlroy during his 2025 Grand Slam win, helped him secure a dramatic playoff victory at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick had let a four-shot lead slip away during the final round, but his caddie's advice inspired him to win his fourth PGA Tour title. The Englishman responded by hitting a remarkable approach shot on the first playoff hole, setting up a winning birdie putt to defeat world No 1 Scottie Scheffler. Fitzpatrick's caddie, Daniel Parratt, had told him that they would have taken their position at the start of the week, echoing the words used by McIlroy's caddie, Harry Diamond, during his Masters win. Fitzpatrick joked that his caddie was channeling Diamond, and the advice clearly worked as he went on to win the tournament. The victory was Fitzpatrick's second in as many starts, and he praised the crowd for creating an electric atmosphere, even if they were largely cheering for his opponent. Scheffler also complimented the fans, saying they were respectful and supportive throughout the tournament. Despite the loss, Scheffler was pleased with his performance, having come back from 12 shots behind at the halfway stage to finish runner-up for the second successive week on the PGA Tour.
