Hull FC Exit Leaves Cartwright Feeling Betrayed

Former Hull FC head coach John Cartwright expressed his disappointment and sense of betrayal after the club announced his departure without providing him with a clear explanation. The 60-year-old Australian coach was informed that his contract would not be renewed at the end of the current season, with the club invoking a six-month termination clause. Despite his efforts to understand the reasoning behind this decision, Cartwright remains in the dark. In a recent interview, he stated, 'I still haven't been given a reason, to be honest with you. I don't know. I have asked and I expect to sit down with someone in the not-too-distant future.' Cartwright had been at the helm of Hull FC since the start of the 2025 campaign, leading the team to a seventh-placed finish, their highest since 2020. The club has already begun the process of finding a new coach for the 2027 season. Cartwright assured that he would continue to fulfill his duties and maintain his loyalty to the players, saying, 'My loyalty and my bond with the players are something that can never be taken away.'
