Evan Williams Sentenced to Three Years for Assaulting Dog Walker

Evan Williams, a 55-year-old trainer, has been sentenced to three years in prison for attacking a 72-year-old dog walker who was on his property. The incident occurred on December 4, 2024, in Llancarfan, Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales, and resulted in the victim, Martin Dandridge, suffering a fractured arm and other injuries. Williams was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a trial at Cardiff Crown Court and was sentenced by Recorder Angharad Price. The judge condemned Williams' actions, stating that he had made a choice to confront the victim instead of waiting for the police to arrive. Williams, a renowned multiple Grade One-winning trainer, had previously experienced a frightening incident with poachers on his land but was told that it is never acceptable to take the law into his own hands. The sentence serves as a lesson to Williams that it is always better to call the police if a crime is suspected. Williams' wife, Cath, has taken over his licence since his conviction, and one of their horses, Ask Brewster, recently won the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Handicap Chase at Cheltenham.
