Fitzpatrick holds off Scheffler to win RBC Heritage in playoff

Matt Fitzpatrick claimed his second PGA Tour victory of the season after a dramatic playoff win over world number one Scottie Scheffler at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick, who held a three-shot lead heading into the final round, appeared to be in control after extending his advantage with two birdies in his first three holes at Harbour Town Golf Links. However, Scheffler mounted a late charge, closing with consecutive birdies to force a playoff after Fitzpatrick bogeyed the final hole. The Englishman regained his composure to fire his approach to 12 feet on the first playoff hole and sunk the birdie putt to secure his second RBC Heritage title in four years. Fitzpatrick's win lifts him to a career-high world ranking of third and makes him the fourth Englishman to achieve multiple PGA Tour victories in the same season. Scheffler's runner-up finish is his second in as many weeks, following his second-place finish at The Masters. Fitzpatrick will now partner his brother Alex at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a two-man team event, as he looks to build on his recent success.
