The future of boxing was on full display at the England Boxing National Amateur Championships, with several up-and-coming athletes showcasing their skills in the elite finals held in Derby. Ruby White, a World U19 champion and four-time European champion at the age group level, made history by winning her first senior national title in the flyweight category, defeating Madi Gittens of Box Club. White's victory marked her 60th consecutive win, with the Sturminster Newton boxer expressing her excitement and proving her doubters wrong. "I'm thrilled to have won, and I believe I've proven myself as a force to be reckoned with in the senior category," White said. "The jump from youth to senior level is significant, but I'm confident I belong on the big stage and hope to represent GB soon." White attributed her success to her unwavering dedication and unrelenting passion for the sport. "My secret to success is that I want it more than anyone else. I train harder and have a stronger will to be the best," she explained. In the men's flyweight division, Billy Macey became a two-time national champion after his opponent, Yusuf Uddin, was disqualified and subsequently shoved the referee. Macey emphasized the importance of maintaining a sportsmanlike demeanor, regardless of the outcome. "Win or lose, you must conduct yourself with dignity and respect," he said. "There's no need for unsportsmanlike behavior; instead, focus on being a true champion." Macey drew inspiration from legendary fighters like Joe Calzaghe, who won the title three times. "It's an honor to follow in their footsteps and win this championship, which is the pinnacle of amateur boxing in the UK," he added. Other notable winners included Adekali Kargbo, who dethroned reigning 90kg champion Akinola Tijani, and Clinton Achusim, who secured the super-heavyweight title. GB boxer Joe Turner also prevailed in a highly competitive 62.5kg final, expressing his confidence in his abilities and his aspirations for a professional world championship title. "I know I'm destined for greatness, and I won't let anyone take that away from me," Turner said. The GB squad is set to compete in the World Boxing Cup event in Brazil, featuring a talented lineup of boxers, including Sacha Hickey, Lauren Mackie, and Chantelle Reid. The men's team includes Ellis Trowbridge, Will Hewitt, and Teagn Stott, who will be competing in the heavyweight division for the third time. "This tournament is a fantastic opportunity for me to test myself against top-level opponents and gain valuable experience on the big stage," Stott said.
