"The game was won in midfield," Carragher emphasized. Initially, Arsenal's press was effective, gaining possession in the final third six times within the first 15 minutes, the most by any side in the Premier League this season. However, Rodri and Silva's bravery in taking possession by dropping deeper and their courage in playing through Arsenal's press turned the game around. Carragher noted, "Silva and Rodri ended up in the back four. They're the centre-backs and take the ball. We saw them lose it early on with Silva against Declan Rice. It didn't stop them from getting it again. That's real courage." Arsenal, despite facing a four-man press before, were unable to match the ingenuity of Rodri and Silva and opted to go long from goal kicks. Carragher observed, "There's a lot of talk about how adventurous Arsenal were. They were without the ball." Referring to the Carabao Cup final a couple of weeks prior, Carragher pointed out that Arsenal had a huge problem trying to play past City's front four, leading to a different setup from goal kicks. While Rodri and Silva were willing to go into the six-yard box to dribble the ball out from goal kicks, Arsenal struggled to play out despite having a three-man advantage. Carragher commended the courage shown by Manchester City with and without the ball, contrasting it with Arsenal's lack of bravery on the ball. "It's easy to have courage without the ball. The courage to go and get the ball in your six-yard box off your goalkeeper in a game of this magnitude is absolutely outstanding," Carragher said. Discussing a situation where it was 7 vs 4, including the goalkeeper, Carragher emphasized the need for bravery on the ball, highlighting that players like Rodri and Silva were willing to take the ball in challenging positions, unlike their Arsenal counterparts. Carragher also analyzed Zubimendi's role in Cherki's opening goal, noting how the midfielder initially helped crowd out Cherki but then failed to get over quickly enough to prevent the scoring opportunity.
