San Siro in Milan May Host ATP 250 Grass-Court Event Starting 2028

A new grass-court ATP 250 tournament, serving as a warm-up to Wimbledon, is set to take place in Milan from 2028, with the iconic San Siro stadium being considered as a potential venue. The Italian Tennis and Padel Federation has acquired the rights to the tournament, previously held in Brussels, and plans to stage it every June. While the exact location is yet to be confirmed, Milan's San Siro, which boasts a capacity of over 75,000, is a strong contender due to its impressive infrastructure. The federation's president, Angelo Binaghi, hinted that the event will likely be held in northern Italy due to climate considerations. The move is part of Italy's efforts to strengthen its presence in the tennis world, having previously hosted a WTA grass-court tournament in Gaiba from 2022 to 2024. Additionally, the country is set to host the ATP Finals in Turin until 2030 and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna through next year. The Italian Tennis Federation is also working on installing a retractable roof at the Foro Italico's Campo Centrale, which is expected to be completed in time for the 2028 edition of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia. Binaghi expressed his ambition to elevate the Rome Masters to the status of a fifth Grand Slam, alongside the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
