Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has confessed that he is unsure about the repercussions the team will face if they fail to secure a Champions League spot. Following a 1-0 loss to Manchester United at home, Chelsea now trails the Red Devils by 10 points and fifth-placed Liverpool by four points ahead of their upcoming Merseyside derby against Everton.
Prior to the match, Cole Palmer stated that he has no intention of leaving Stamford Bridge and emphasized the importance of qualifying for the Champions League to attract the necessary players. Rosenior acknowledged that missing out on the Champions League could impact both incoming and outgoing transfers, but admitted that he is uncertain about the consequences. 'The honest answer is I don't know,' Rosenior said in his post-match press conference.
'We're still fighting, and we will address that situation at the end of the season, whatever the outcome may be.' Palmer expressed his commitment to the club, saying, 'I've got no plans to move from Chelsea. We've still got a lot to play for.' With only five Premier League games remaining, Chelsea will rely on other teams, such as Liverpool and Aston Villa, to slip up in order to climb back into the Champions League spots. Rosenior believes that despite the challenges, there is still a chance for the team to qualify for the elite competition. 'It gives us a mountain to climb,' he added.
'It's not insurmountable. We have to go into Brighton with the intention of winning that game and kick-starting the rest of our season.'
