Ruby White Shines Among Future Stars at National Finals

The England Boxing National Amateur Championships showcased the sport's rising talent, with Ruby White claiming her first senior national title in the flyweight division. White, a four-time European age group champion and World U19 champion, defeated Madi Gittens of Box Club in the elite finals held in Derby. This victory marked White's 60th consecutive win, solidifying her unbeaten streak. Following her unanimous decision win, White expressed her elation, stating, 'I've proven many people wrong by winning this tournament as a first-year senior. The transition from youth to senior level is massive, but I've demonstrated that I'm meant to be on the big stage and hope to compete for GB soon.' White attributed her success to her intense training and unwavering determination, saying, 'The secret to my success is that I want it more. I train harder than anyone, and my willpower to be the best surpasses anyone else's.' In the men's flyweight category, Billy Macey became a two-time national champion after his opponent, Yusuf Uddin, was disqualified and then shoved the referee. Macey emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, saying, 'Regardless of the outcome, you must conduct yourself with dignity and respect.' He also expressed his pride in following in the footsteps of legendary fighters like Joe Calzaghe, who won the title three times. Other notable winners included Adekali Kargbo, who dethroned reigning 90kg champion Akinola Tijani, and Clinton Achusim, who secured the super-heavyweight title. GB boxer Joe Turner prevailed in the 62.5kg final, beating Halliwell's Joe Peel, and stated, 'I was born for moments like this, and I'm confident that I'll become a world champion as a pro one day.' The GB squad is set to compete in the World Boxing Cup event in Brazil, featuring Sacha Hickey, Lauren Mackie, and Chantelle Reid in the women's team, and Ellis Trowbridge, Will Hewitt, Patris Mughalzai, Paddy Hewitt, Dimeji Shittu, and Teagn Stott in the men's lineup. Stott, who won silver at last year's World Boxing Championships, aims to consolidate his position in the heavyweight division and continue to improve with each bout.
