McIlroy Sets Sights on New Major Targets After Masters Victory

Following his successful title defense at The Masters, Rory McIlroy is reassessing his major goals, with new opportunities to create golfing history. Having completed the career Grand Slam last year, McIlroy's latest victory has propelled him into an elite group of players to have successfully defended their title at The Masters, alongside Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods. With six major wins, McIlroy is now tied with Faldo, Phil Mickelson, and Lee Trevino, and is just one major shy of surpassing Faldo as the most successful European golfer in the modern era. McIlroy has expressed his desire to achieve more, stating, 'I felt like the Grand Slam was the destination, and I realized it wasn't. It's just a part of the journey. I still have things I want to achieve.' Potential targets for McIlroy include becoming a double Grand Slam champion, winning the US Open, and achieving a Calendar Slam. With his latest victory, McIlroy has also moved closer to reclaiming the world No 1 spot, currently held by Scottie Scheffler. As McIlroy looks to the future, he will be working towards new major targets, with the PGA Championship, US Open, and The Open still to come this year.
