Gilley Vows to Take On Anyone, Except Greene, as He Moves Up to Middleweight

Following a disappointing year, Sam Gilley is shifting his focus to the middleweight division with an upcoming fight against Aston Brown in Glasgow. The former Commonwealth champion had a string of setbacks, including a draw with Gideon Onyenani and a close loss to Ishmael Davis in his bid for the British super-welterweight title. Despite these challenges, Gilley remains optimistic and determined to learn from his experiences. "It was a tough year, but it taught me a lot about myself and my character," he said in an interview with Sky Sports. Gilley still harbors ambitions of winning the Lonsdale belt, a dream he has held since watching Ricky Hatton defeat Jon Thaxton. Although he got the opportunity to fight for the title at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the loss has only strengthened his resolve. However, one fight Gilley is not interested in pursuing is a rematch with Louis Greene. The two boxers had previously engaged in a thrilling match at York Hall, but their planned rematch for the British title fell through twice, leaving a sour taste in Gilley's mouth. "I will fight anyone, but I will never give Louis Greene another chance," Gilley stated, citing the time and opportunities lost due to Greene's withdrawals. As Gilley prepares to face Aston Brown, a former international amateur with notable punching power, he is confident in his ability to withstand the challenge. "I was built for the tough fights in the pros. Let's see if Brown can handle it," Gilley said, emphasizing his toughness and passion for the sport. With a renewed sense of purpose, Gilley is determined to make his mark in the middleweight division and prove his worth as a professional boxer.
