Rory McIlroy acknowledged that failing to convert his record-breaking halfway lead at The Masters into a title would have been difficult to accept. McIlroy became the fourth player in history to achieve back-to-back Masters wins, following his dramatic playoff victory over Justin Rose last year, by securing a one-shot win over Scottie Scheffler. Despite building a six-shot lead midway through the tournament, McIlroy fell behind during the final day but responded with four birdies to claim his sixth major title.
McIlroy stated, 'I thought it was really tough to win last year, but this year I realized it's just challenging to win The Masters.' He also expressed his delight at winning, saying, 'I'm thrilled to have gotten it done.' With this victory, McIlroy joins Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods as the only players to have won The Masters in consecutive years.
