Dobey Dominates Players Championship as Humphries' Struggles Persist

Luke Humphries' recent slump continued with a disappointing loss in the last 16 at the Players Championship 9 in Wigan, while Chris Dobey claimed his second title of 2026 with a convincing victory. Just four days after a quarter-final defeat to Jonny Clayton, which put his Premier League finals hopes in jeopardy, Humphries was defeated 6-4 by Andrew Gilding. Gilding's campaign ultimately ended with a 7-1 semi-final loss to Dobey, who earlier thrashed Luke Woodhouse 6-1 and overcame Richard Veenstra 6-3 in the quarter-finals. Dobey went on to defeat Justin Hood 8-4 in the final, claiming the £15,000 prize. Despite losing the first two legs, Dobey regained control by winning six of the next seven, with a 105.28 average proving too much for Hood. "I've been playing well throughout the year, and I'm hoping to win more titles," Dobey said. "It's not easy to win just one, so to win ten is an incredible feeling. I want to start performing on TV and winning European Tour titles - I know I can do it, I just need to be consistent." The tournament also saw a nine-darter from Thomas Lovely in his round three loss to Woodhouse. Other notable results included Tom Bissell's 6-4 win over Krzysztof Ratajski and Beau Greaves becoming the first woman to reach a ProTour quarter-final. The Premier League Darts schedule and table are available, with the action continuing every Thursday until May on Sky Sports.
