Manchester United's Harry Maguire has been given an extra one-match suspension for misconduct, meaning he will not play against Chelsea. An independent regulatory commission charged Maguire with acting improperly after he swore at the fourth official following his red card in the match against Bournemouth. Maguire had already served a suspension for the red card and will now miss the Chelsea game due to the additional ban. He admitted to the offence and was also fined £30,000. The FA's report stated that Maguire said 'you're all a f****** joke' as he left the field, although Maguire claimed he did not insult the official directly. Manchester United will now be without Maguire and Lisandro Martinez for the Chelsea game, as Martinez was also sent off in the defeat to Leeds. This leaves United with limited centre-back options, including Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven, who are inexperienced. Luke Shaw could be an alternative, but the physical challenge of Joao Pedro may lead to a more conventional option being chosen. Casemiro has played centre-back before, but it is unlikely he will be used in this position again. The final option could be to use a young centre-back from the youth ranks, such as Godwill Kukonki, who has been featured in matchday squads before.
