Hull FC Exit Leaves Cartwright Feeling Betrayed
Former Hull FC head coach John Cartwright has expressed his feelings of betrayal and disrespect following the confirmation of his exit from the club. The announcement was made by Hull FC on April 7, stating that Cartwright would be leaving at the end of the current Betfred Super League season. Cartwright claims he was not provided with an explanation for the decision. In an interview, Cartwright stated, "The club decided to part ways with me at the end of my contract, and a six-month termination clause was exercised. I still haven't received a reason for this decision, despite asking for one." Cartwright had taken over as head coach at the start of the 2025 campaign, leading the team to a seventh-place finish, their highest since 2020. He will continue to fulfill his duties, saying, "I'll do my job and won't jeopardize it." The club has already begun the process of hiring a new coach for the 2027 season, with Cartwright's current contract set to end.
