Oleksandr Usyk has pledged to assist Anthony Joshua in defeating Tyson Fury. Joshua, a former world champion who lost to Usyk on two occasions, has joined Usyk's training camp and is working alongside the undefeated, unified heavyweight champion.
Usyk has extended a warm welcome to Joshua, stating, 'We support each other, work together, and enjoy each other's company. We've transitioned from being rivals to friends.' As a two-weight, three-time undisputed world champion, Usyk has twice beaten Fury and is well-equipped to advise Joshua on how to tackle the former two-time heavyweight champion.
'I believe AJ will triumph over my friend Fury,' Usyk said. Negotiations are progressing for Joshua to face Fury in an eagerly anticipated all-British heavyweight showdown this year, according to Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn. Usyk might even be present in Joshua's corner for the Fury fight.
Hearn expressed confidence in Joshua's abilities, citing the positive impact of training with Usyk. 'The setup is incredible, and being around the best fighter in the sport is a valuable experience,' Hearn said. 'Joshua loves it and has been training with Usyk since August. The inspirational environment and Usyk's guidance have reinvigorated Joshua's passion for the sport.' Usyk is preparing for his own fight against Rico Verhoeven on May 23, where he will defend his WBC title.
Despite being linked to potential future fights, Usyk remains focused on his upcoming bout, stating, 'My sole focus is on the May 23 fight; I will discuss future plans after that.'
