Matt Fitzpatrick has revealed how words of encouragement from his caddie, inspired by Rory McIlroy's 2025 Grand Slam success, helped him secure a dramatic play-off victory at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick had let a four-shot lead slip away during the final round, but he responded by winning the play-off against world No 1 Scottie Scheffler with a birdie putt on the first extra hole. The Englishman's caddie, Daniel Parratt, had told him 'we'd have taken this start of the week' before the play-off, echoing words used by McIlroy's caddie Harry Diamond during his Masters win. Fitzpatrick said he felt like he was in a good spot and hit an 'out of this world' four-iron to set up his winning birdie. He had taken a three-shot lead into the final day, but a late stumble and back-to-back birdies from Scheffler forced a play-off. Fitzpatrick held on to win his fourth PGA Tour title and second victory in as many starts. He praised the crowd for creating a lively atmosphere, saying it motivated him to victory. Scheffler also hailed the fans, saying they were 'pretty cordial' in their support. The PGA Tour now heads to Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a two-man team event at TPC Louisiana.
