Injury Forces Draper's Early Exit in Barcelona as Norrie Advances

Jack Draper's clay-court season got off to a disappointing start as he was forced to retire due to injury in the decisive third set of his first-round match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the Barcelona Open. Draper had won the first set 6-3 but struggled with his movement in the subsequent sets, eventually trailing 4-1 in the third before withdrawing from the match. Despite his promising start, Draper's knee issues hindered his performance, allowing Etcheverry to gain control. Etcheverry praised Draper, saying, 'He was playing unbelievably... He's a great competitor, a great fighter.' Draper, who has been sidelined since last August's US Open due to a left-arm injury, will next compete in the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie overcame a challenging three-set match against three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, winning 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 to advance to the second round. Norrie will face American Ethan Quinn next. In other news, Katie Boulter easily progressed to the last 16 of the Rouen Open with a 6-2 6-2 victory over Maria Timofeeva.
