Verstappen paid tribute to the 66-year-old after the incident. With the F1 schedule interrupted in April due to the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, Verstappen has added the NLS4 and NLS5 races to his expanding GT3 calendar. He is teamed up with seasoned endurance driver Lucas Auer, nephew of former F1 driver Gerhard Berger, driving the Red Bull-livered Mercedes-AMG GT3 car for Verstappen Racing in a 37-strong GT3 field at the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie. He previously won on his debut last September in a Ferrari 296 GT3 car, shared with Britain's Chris Lulham. Verstappen and his teammates, driving the Mercedes, secured a first-place finish on his return to NLS action last month but were later disqualified due to exceeding the permitted tire allocation.
