In a bid to bolster its technical department, Red Bull has introduced significant changes aimed at intensifying its focus on innovation and performance. Ben Waterhouse, who has been a key member of the team since 2017 as the head of performance engineering, will assume an expanded leadership role as chief performance and design engineer. Waterhouse will oversee design and vehicle performance, fostering greater integration between these areas to expedite the development of cutting-edge solutions. Meanwhile, Andrea Landi is set to join the team on July 1 as the head of performance, bringing his expertise from sister team Racing Bulls, where he served as deputy technical director, as well as his prior experience at Ferrari.
Landi will report directly to Waterhouse. According to a statement from Red Bull, these adjustments underscore the team's commitment to its long-term technical objectives and reflect its dedication to nurturing internal talent while attracting prominent experts from the sport. Following a challenging start to the new era of F1 regulations, with the team currently sitting sixth in the Constructors' Championship, these changes are seen as crucial.
The team has faced significant departures of key staff members in recent years, with the latest being Gianpiero Lambiase's decision to join McLaren in 2028. As the season progresses, with the Miami Grand Prix scheduled for May 1-3, Red Bull aims to regain its competitive edge.
