Emma Raducanu Withdraws from Madrid Open Due to Ongoing Recovery

Emma Raducanu has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Madrid Open, citing her ongoing recovery from post-viral symptoms. The British No 1 had previously withdrawn from the Miami and Linz WTA Tour events to prioritize her rehabilitation. Raducanu, who also skipped Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup qualifier, has resumed training and aims to compete in Rome's Italian Open in early May. Her last match was on March 8 at Indian Wells, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova. Raducanu acknowledged needing to work on her aggressive gameplay and strategy. Since parting ways with coach Francisco Roig in January, she has been informally working with Mark Petchey to regain her form. Raducanu's next clay-court opportunity will be the Italian Open, starting on May 5, followed by tournaments in Strasbourg and Rabat before the French Open. Several high-profile players, including Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, have also withdrawn from the Madrid Open.
