Matt Fitzpatrick has revealed how his caddie's words of encouragement, similar to those used by Rory McIlroy during his 2025 Grand Slam win, helped him secure a dramatic play-off victory at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick had let a four-shot lead slip away during the final round, but he bounced back to win his fourth PGA Tour title. His caddie, Daniel Parratt, drew inspiration from McIlroy's caddie, Harry Diamond, telling Fitzpatrick that they would have taken their position at the start of the week. Fitzpatrick joked that Parratt was channeling his inner Harry Diamond, and the advice seemed to work as he went on to hit a stunning four-iron approach shot to set up a winning birdie putt.
Fitzpatrick's victory came after a thrilling final round, which saw him struggle to maintain his lead. Despite a late stumble, he managed to hold on and force a play-off against world No 1 Scottie Scheffler. The Englishman's win was his second in as many starts, and he credited his caddie's advice for helping him stay focused under pressure.
Fitzpatrick also praised the crowd for creating a lively atmosphere, saying that it motivated him to victory. He even poked fun at the American fans, who were cheering for Scheffler, saying that they had short memories given the Englishman's recent Ryder Cup win.
Scheffler, who finished runner-up for the second successive week, also praised the fans, saying that they were cordial and supportive. The PGA Tour now heads to Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a two-man team event at TPC Louisiana.
