Following his signing with Zuffa Boxing, Chris Billam-Smith has expressed his desire to face Jai Opetaia, aiming to solidify his position as the world's best. Billam-Smith, a former WBO cruiserweight champion, will now have his fights broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Having lost his title to Gilberto Ramirez, he bounced back with a win over Brandon Glanton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Opetaia, also a Zuffa fighter, recently became the inaugural Zuffa world cruiserweight champion with a unanimous decision victory over Glanton.
Billam-Smith stated, 'We are two of the biggest names in the cruiserweight division and are both signed under the same promoter.' He believes this matchup is inevitable, given their shared promoter and his history of fighting top opponents. Billam-Smith's multi-fight deal with Zuffa is expected to help him prove his status as the world's best by taking on the toughest challenges, with Opetaia being a primary target.
Despite being out of the ring for over a year, Billam-Smith has been in training since January and is eager to announce his next fight soon, with the goal of competing in the UK and potentially in his hometown of Bournemouth.
