Manchester United's Harry Maguire will be absent from the team's upcoming trip to Chelsea, having received an additional one-match ban for misconduct. An independent regulatory commission charged Maguire with acting in an 'improper manner' on April 1, following his red card against Bournemouth on March 20. Maguire had reacted to being sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity by pushing Bournemouth's Evanilson, after which Eli Junior Kroupi scored the equalizing goal from the spot in added time. The England international had already served a suspension for the red card, missing the 2-1 loss to Leeds, and will now miss the Chelsea match due to the additional ban. Maguire admitted to the offense and was also fined £30,000. According to the FA's written reasons, fourth official Matt Donohue claimed Maguire said, 'You're a joke, you're all a f****** joke,' as he left the field, although Maguire claimed he did not insult the official but said something similar to 'it is a f****** joke.' Manchester United will now be without both Maguire and Lisandro Martinez against Chelsea, as Martinez was sent off for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair during the Leeds match. With Maguire suspended, United's center-back options are limited, with Lisandro Martinez also banned and Matthijs de Ligt still sidelined with a back injury. The team's only natural center-backs, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven, have shown inexperience this season. Luke Shaw could be a more tried and tested option, but the physical challenge of Joao Pedro may lead to a more conventional choice. Casemiro has played center-back in the past, but it is unlikely that Carrick would restrict the team's limited midfield options further. A possible solution could be to use a young center-back from the youth ranks, such as 18-year-old Godwill Kukonki, who has featured in several matchday squads under Ruben Amorim.
