Anthony Gordon Among Key Players Who May Depart Newcastle
Newcastle expects Anthony Gordon to consider a transfer this summer. The English player has garnered interest from Bayern Munich and Arsenal. Gordon, along with Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento, may leave the club, with several top clubs showing interest. Although Gordon has not expressed a desire to leave, a substantial offer could change his stance. Liverpool previously attempted to sign him in 2024, but it's uncertain if they will revisit their interest. Newcastle's manager, Eddie Howe, stated that he discusses various topics with players but only addresses transfer speculation when necessary. Howe emphasized the importance of a player's commitment to the club and their training performance. Newcastle holds a strong negotiating position with Tonali and Gordon due to their contracts. Ideally, the club would like to retain both players, but they are open to 'trading' to revamp their squad. Tonali and Livramento have also attracted interest from other clubs, with Manchester City pursuing Livramento. None of the players have formally requested a transfer, but there is an understanding that one or more may seek new opportunities. Gordon has maintained a professional demeanor during training and games. According to Sky Sports' North East correspondent Keith Downie, Gordon's potential departure is plausible, especially considering Newcastle's lack of Champions League football. Downie suggests that Newcastle would demand a significant fee, possibly double the £40m they paid for Gordon in 2023, given his current contract and performance. If Newcastle were to sell Gordon for around £75m-£80m, it would provide them with more flexibility in the transfer market and allow for significant investments in new players.
