Fitzpatrick Edges Out Scheffler in Thrilling PGA Tour Play-Off

English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick has secured his second PGA Tour victory of the season, overcoming a late stumble to defeat world number one Scottie Scheffler in a play-off at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick had started the day with a three-shot lead and seemed in control after extending his advantage with two birdies in the first three holes. However, Scheffler mounted a late charge, closing with back-to-back birdies to force a play-off after Fitzpatrick bogeyed the final hole. The play-off saw Fitzpatrick regain his composure, firing his approach to 12 feet on the par-four 18th and sinking the birdie to claim his second RBC Heritage title in four years. The win propels Fitzpatrick to a career-high world ranking of third and makes him the fourth Englishman to achieve multiple PGA Tour wins in the same season. Scheffler, meanwhile, finished as runner-up for the second consecutive week, having also come close at The Masters. Fitzpatrick will now partner his brother Alex at the upcoming Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a two-man team event, as he looks to build on his recent success.
