Andoni Iraola to Depart Bournemouth as Successor Shortlist Emerges

Bournemouth's head coach, Andoni Iraola, has announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. Following this news, Sky Sports News has learned that Marco Rose, the former manager of RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, is among the top contenders to succeed Iraola. Iraola's contract expires in three months, and despite receiving numerous offers to extend his stay, he has chosen not to renew, amid interest from his previous club, Athletic Club, and links to other Premier League teams. In a statement on the club's website, Iraola expressed that this is the right moment for him to step down, following a record-breaking three-year tenure on the south coast. His final home game will be against Manchester City on May 17. Bournemouth had attempted to persuade Iraola to stay, but they respect his decision. The club had been searching for a new head coach in the background, and it is understood that there are three favored candidates on their shortlist. Currently 11th in the league, Bournemouth still has a chance to end Iraola's time on a high note with a potential European qualification. Iraola has been a well-liked figure at the club since his appointment in June 2023, implementing an attacking style of football. The club finished ninth in the Premier League last season with a record 56 points. This season, Iraola had to cope with the sales of several key players, including Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, and Illia Zabarnyi, for a total of £253m. Iraola's departure from Bournemouth will see him leave as one of the Premier League's most sought-after coaching prospects. Athletic Club is interested in bringing Iraola back to the Basque Country as their new head coach, while other clubs, such as Crystal Palace and Tottenham, have also been linked to him in the past. However, Tottenham has since appointed Roberto De Zerbi, and Crystal Palace has moved on to other targets. Manchester United has not made a decision on their next head coach, and speculation surrounding Eddie Howe's future at Newcastle has seen Iraola become a favorite to potentially take over at St James' Park.
