Bournemouth Shortlists McKenna, but Rose Emerges as Frontrunner to Succeed Iraola

Marco Rose is reportedly the top contender for the Bournemouth manager position. According to Sky Sports News, the club has narrowed down its shortlist to three candidates, including Ipswich's Kieran McKenna, to replace Andoni Iraola. Bournemouth aims to appoint Iraola's successor swiftly after confirming his departure at the end of his contract. Rose, who was dismissed by RB Leipzig in March 2025, is seen as the key figure to watch. McKenna, meanwhile, is focused on leading Ipswich back to the Premier League. Although Inigo Perez, Iraola's former assistant, is admired by Bournemouth, he is not currently on the shortlist. Iraola took the reins at Bournemouth in June 2023 and guided the team to a ninth-place finish in the Premier League last season, setting a new club record for points. With Iraola's contract expiring, the club had sought to extend his deal but has accepted his decision to leave. His departure comes after a notable 2-1 win over Premier League leaders Arsenal. Iraola has been linked to a return to Athletic Bilbao and the Manchester United job. In a statement, Iraola expressed his gratitude to the players, staff, and fans, citing it as an honor to manage Bournemouth. Analyst Mark McAdam notes that replacing Iraola will be challenging, given his impressive tenure. Rose, available since his dismissal from RB Leipzig, has Champions League experience and has won silverware. His football philosophy, emphasizing emotion, hunger, and activity, aligns with Bournemouth's approach. While McKenna is a respected candidate, his current involvement in Ipswich's promotion push may complicate a quick appointment.
